What is trafficking in persons?

Trafficking in persons has three main aspects:

  • Recruitment
  • Transportation and transfer
  • Harbouring or receiving trafficked persons
  • Threatening or using force or other forms of coercion
  • Abduction
  • Fraud or deception
  • Abuse of power to exploit vulnerable people
  • Giving or receiving payments or benefits to achieve control over another person
  • Sexual exploitation and prostitution
  • Forced labour, slavery, debt bondage or similar practices
  • Forced marriage
  • Removal of organs
