Ways of working

ASEAN-ACT is committed to strengthening the knowledge and skills of counter-trafficking practitioners through a systematic institutional approach.

Advancing gender equality, disability, and social inclusion

ASEAN-ACT’s support for equality and inclusion is about removing obstacles faced by groups most affected by trafficking in persons.

Tackling entrenched attitudes, norms and behaviours in order to support a victim-centred approach – regardless of gender – is challenging and will take sustained commitment and effort from all stakeholders.

Upholding the rights of trafficked victims

We work with ASEAN Member States to ensure implementation of ACTIP commitments, especially to advance the rights of victims.

A victim rights approach seeks to ensure that the rights of victims are exercised and protected and that any trauma associated with the criminal justice process is minimised.

Policy engagement in counter-trafficking reform

Policies to counter human trafficking require a strong evidence base to inform their development and reforms. The experiences and expertise of those vulnerable to trafficking as well as those trafficked are vital in informing these, and those who provide assistance to them.
